Question Help me find cruise from Venice

OK, here's the deal: I want to go from Italy west to Monaco, France, Spain, and Portugal. I do NOT want to go to Greece, Croatia, and Turkey, but I DO want to go to Venice. Usually, when I see a cruise that begins in Venice, it goes east first and then around Italy. This is an extremely frustrating issue for me because for years I have wanted to cruise the Western - not Eastern - Mediterranean, including Venice but nothing east of it. To make matters worse my mom said 12 days is too long for a cruise and I can't go to Europe or on a cruise alone. It looks like I will be sailing on Princess after reading better reviews of that line than Celebrity. Do I need to open the door a little wider and find something wonderful about Greece? Can I find a cruise in the area that is shorter than 12 days without sacrificing quality? Am I driving myself crazy about nothing?

RCI Vision of the Seas has a 9 night Venice, Split, Naples, Rome, Nice, Barcelona, Cadiz, and Lisbon. $619 inside. They offer a $100 OBC but I doubt it is offered on the cheapest inside. Leaves Nov. 11, 2011.
MCS Opera, has a 10 night. London, La Coruna, Lisbon Malaga, Tunis, Dubrovnik, Venice 1,249. 17 and under are free with 2 adults in some categories. The Opera also has a cruise beginning in Amsterdm in September 10 nights. There are probably more. Keep looking. Lee

These cruises sound nice. If I didn't already have a cruise booked for Nov 11, I would think about these.

We did two 7-night back-to-back cruises out of Venice to the Greek Islands and they were absolutely wonderful! Don't know why you said you don't want to go there because we found them to be very nice. Santorini was our favorite and we'd love to go there again - it is beautiful. Mykonos was also very nice. Athens is a big city and except for the archaeological sites, it was not all that great. Corfu was good, especially for shopping. We also went to Split & Dubrovnik, Croatia, as well as Kusadasi, Turkey, all of which were very interesting and were a pleasant surprise. Katakolon, Greece was great because it's the gateway to Olympia and we really enjoyed that. We were lucky enough to be there during the Olympic torch lighting ceremony, which was awesome!

The Greek Islands are amazing - someplace we have always wanted to go see and we were definitely not disappointed. The food, the people, and the atmosphere was more than we imagined. Truly a memorable two weeks.

We also spent a week touring around by train through Germany and Italy, and spent 2 days in Venice before the cruise. After the cruise, we then went by train through Germany, spent a couple of days in Amsterdam, and 3 days in Paris. Total of 30 days.

This year we spent 2-1/2 weeks traveling around Europe by train, then did a 12-night Baltic cruise, followed by 3 days in London, and 2 days in Paris.

While the two week cruise was about 2 days too long, the 12-night cruise was just right. But then again, we've gotten so that 7-night cruises are just too short for us.

    Question

    Two questions for Baldwincruising:

    1. What part of Ohio do you live in? I am near Columbus.
    2. What is your avatar a picture of? A towel animal?

    Andrea,

Have you thought of seeing Venice by land for a couple days and then taking a plane or train to Rome to start the cruise? With Venice's location, most cruise lines are probably going to stop somewhere along the Adriatic (Slovenia, Croatia) before heading back to the Italian ports.

I agree with Pete also, the Greek islands are really quite beautiful! I loved Athens! Seeing the Acropolis all lit up at night was breath taking.

the best if not the only time of the year you can find a Venice to Portugal cruise is either in October/November or March/April.

RCCL - Splendour of the seas has a cruise in April going from Lisbon to Venice.

You are going to be very lucky to find exactly what you are looking for.

You already got a very good advice starting the cruise in Rome and visiting Venice by land.

    We're near Cleveland/Akron.
It is a towel animal from the Carnival Fredom. I started taking pictures of all the animals before we used the towels. This one stayed intact the entire cruise. (made the first night)

hi i have just returned from a cruise Rome to Venice with Pacific Princess, and loved it. We covered france ,italy, malta, and montenegro, croatia and slovenia, and back to venice. I would say the last three before venice were great stops. I have covered greece before on other cruises and again i think the stops are great, so different to france and italy, and again the weather has been much better, Twice we haven't been able to get into monte carlo because it was too rough. Santoroni is also a great favourite of mine and have stopped there about four times and would go again. You can always add venice for extra days as a lot of people did on my cruise.. all the best kiki

I certainly did think of that but can't imagine myself pulling a large suitcase onto and off of a train. For a 12-night cruise, obviously I am not going to just bring my carry-on size suitcase.

Is it true the Acropolis is bad for people with mobility problems? I can walk unassisted on the ground, but need a banister on stairs.
