    Cabotage

Maasdam sails from Montreal to Boston on July 10. I need to be in Halifax on business from July 15 to 18. If I disembark in Halifax, what are the ramifications of not continuing on to Boston to complete the cruise?

    Thanks

    Hi and welcome to www.cruiselinefans.com

I think you should be ok to disembark in Halifax so long as you let the cruise line know in advice. The down side is you will be charged the full price even though you are not doing the full cruise.

I am not a travel agent so could be wrong, but I am sure one of our travel agent members wil put me right if I am

Stephen is correct, you can disembark at any port provided: 1) you have notified them ahead of time; 2) you must go to the Purser's Office to clear your account before disembarkation, and 3) you must carry off your own luggage. And as he stated, you'll have to pay for the entire cruise - you'll not get a discount for disembarking early.

Cabotage is very complicated. Although I am unfamiliar with Canadian laws regarding cabotage, US cabotage laws would prohibit a passenger from boarding in one US port and disembarking in a different US port without visiting a deep or distant foriegn port. There are no deep or distant foriegn in North or Central America.
So, for instance a ship traveling from San Diego to Vancouver Canada would not be able to disembark any passengers in any other US port such as LA, SF, Seattle or any Alaskan port.
