    Trouble in Thailand

I am booked to cruise Asia in Nov 2010.. the final port of call is Thailand.

At present their is civil unrest in Thailand and the British foreign office recommends not travelling there..

Hopefully things will die down by November, but what is the usual routine when a country is too dangerous to visit..??

Krusty, it's always the safest bet to do what your government is advising, BUT if no one travelled whenever there were travel warnings, we'd all be stuck at home

If you do decide to follow through with your plans, it may be a good idea to map out a carefully laid out "Plan B" and possible "Plan C" by trying to make your way to adjoining countries where they are not impacted by the unrest.

Also, if it gets really bad, the cruise line may alter the itinerary. I'm not sure how frequently they do that with a disembarkation port though?

Krusty .... Certainly understand your concern.

You mentioned your final PORT of CALL is Thailand.

So, does that mean you'll have to fly home from Thailand or is it your last port stop and you'll fly home from elsewhere?

I looked up the Diamond Princess itineraries for November 2010 and the one that starts in China does end in Thailand. So that could be problematic if there are massive problems still going on at that time (else you could stay on the ship like you can in any port)...can't exactly do that in your disembarkation port. It could be possible that the last port will be changed or maybe offer a shuttle service for those going directly to the airport to fly home.

It may be a very simple answer but nonotheless good advice.
The cruise line would probably make some adjustment in the itinerary
but you won't be getting what you wanted. I'd just look for something
that didn't have the chance of getting changed or cancelled.

Krusty .... Do you still have the option to CANCEL the cruise? If so, have you considered doing so?
