I hope that my facetious reply isn't misconstrued, but:

Why not just do the same cruise in reverse?

Time may be a factor, I suppose, but as a retired person, I'm inclined to ask, "What?"

    Question Three-way flights

    What about this . . .

The first time I went to California, I flew into Los Angeles and out of San Francisco. My mom said it counted as a round-trip ticket, not two one-way tickets. Is this possible in Europe? Do you know if it would cost more or less than two one-way tickets?

By the way, my first preference would be Venice to Barcelona but nothing is carved in stone yet.

If we do a transatalntic or repositioning cruise in the UK the air is included....fly out to NY cruise back with Cunard or fly to say Barbados cruise back with P&O. What can be difficult is staying at one end a bit longer than they want you to. One day....one day we will fly to our spiritual home, Barbados, stay for a week or so then cruise back.

I am sure that for many time is a factor but what is a bigger factor it that most transatlantic crossing are repositioning cruises. The ships are being moved to or from Europe and will not be going back for some time.

Andrea, that is called an open jaw ticket. A lot of times the cruiseline offers a much better deal on those itineraries than booking with the airline. The cruise companies have bulk contracts with various airlines, however, sometimes the scheduling of flights is not always the best.

When you do decide on a cruise date check all of your options before purchasing your air.

Char, I plan to buy my aiir tickets independently so I can choose the flight times and lengths of all layovers. I learned the hard way to NEVER buy a ticket with less than an hour layover - did that once and was stuck at Dulles for about four hours because the second flight home was on time after a delay out of the Kennedy airport.

We do international open-jaw tickets all the time and frequently save hundreds over the best online posted fares by using a consolidator or other company selling bulk fare seats. Doing a repo can be a bit of a challenge if you live in the destination port city. We just returned from a repo and used Virgin Atlantic for our Chicago - London leg, American for the outbound domestic leg to ORD and Southwest on the inbound leg from LGA.
