    Cell phone

I'm going to Bermuda from Norfolk - will my cell phone work ON the ship if I call someone also on the ship? How about off the ship? (it's a tracfone)

If your phone is set up for international service, it should work off the ship. Not familiar with tracphones, but I am pretty sure that Bermuda is not in our stateside phone companies' systems. Hence recommending an international setup.

I ahven't been on a RCL ship in a while, so I will have to let someone else answer about the cell Onboard the ship. I am guessing that you will have bad or no reception, based on my friend's experience on a different ship, but let's seee if someone has better info.

Yes, it will work if you are set-up for international calls, you will be charged the international roaming rate,so beware it could be very expensive.

I called my cell phone company the other day to find out what charges to expect if I get international roaming. They emailed me a really comprehensive list of the countries and charges per 30 seconds.

It is expensive but handy for emergencies.

My understanding is that if you are on the ship docked in Bermuda and your cell phone is based from Norfolk when you make a call to someone - even if they are standing next to you - you will be billed the international rate from Bermuda.

Check with the Cruise Line too. Many of them that have cell service via sattelite, will be a lot more than 30 cents, even if you just call to the other end of the ship.

I had the international plan added to my phone. I have Sprint, and on their website, with some searching I can find the list of charges for each country. Amazing that the Bahamas is more money than some of the other islands...lol. Your phone will use the satellite with the best reception... I have never had trouble with my cell phone reception...

Tracphone though... just be aware of the amount of minutes you have. I believe they allow the calls... but... "charge" the increased rates against what you already have on their...
