    Travel Insurance

I have booked a cruise with a TA in the UK. When I asked about their travel insurance costs they advised me that they could not provide insurance for my cruise because I was not a UK resident. I am a Swedish citizen living in Sweden. I was not very concerned until I tried to complete my on-line pre-boarding information for Royal Caribbean and the form "required" insurance carrier name and policy number.

I think insurance is a smart way to protect my vacation investment. But I did not know it was required. I am not sure where to obtain insurance for my cruise. I will check with my home-owners insurance company but I wonder is anyone has another recommendation.

    Does Royal Caribbean offer insurance?

Thanks in advance for your help.

It's normal for a t.a. In the u.k. Not to be able to offer insurance for nationals of other countries.
Check on line, i'm sure you'll find loads

    Hey Lee

Yes, Royal Caribbean does offer insurance. It is not as comprehensive as independently purchased insurance, though.

You never know what might happen when traveling...anything from flight delays, lost luggage, illness, accidents etc.

I haven't checked to see if Insuremytrip.com sells outside of the US, but you can look at their web site and do some research on insurance policies. They sell for a number of companies and their website is set up so you can compare pricing and coverage. Here is the link--> InsureMyTrip.com

I'm sure Pete or one of our other travel agent members will be checking the forum tonight or tomorrow and may be able to give you more info.

I think Pete is on vacation for about 10 days or so, so he might not check in. Dolores is probably snowed in and Reggie is bound to see this soon.

    Thanks Nancy
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

The web-site recommended above is good. I have found so other places here that have lots good info. After reading the "fine" print I realize there are lots of factors I must look at. I will devote a section on insurance to my trip report and will continue to follow this thread also. Thanks, as always for your help and comments.

Like Char said, RC offers an inscurence or cancelation policy. I have never used it myself tho.

Usually you have to purchase a travel inscurence in the country you live in. I.e. Sweden. Either a annual, multi trip or single.

I have never been asked by Royal Caribbean for incurence policy number when doing the online check in.

As was stated, some of the travel insurance companies do not provide coverage for international guests - you need to check and make sure before purchasing. Also, as I've pointed out before, make sure you purchase travel insurance and NOT travel protection - there is a distinct difference, so make sure you read the policy carefully.

And yes, RCCL does offer insurance and often international guests find it easier to just purchase the insurance with them. Although, as others have pointed out, it's often not as comprehensive as independent companies.

Just another reason why you should book with an agent and not through an online site or with the cruise line.
