I'm noticing a lot of really good Europe to Us repositioning fares but theone way airfare to the European port is usually as much as or more than the cruise fares. Any ideas on cheaper one way flights?

As with any airfare rates, have your agent check with the cruise line and the consolidators.
Luckily, the repositioning cruises usually take place during off-traveled times, so at least both the cruise and air rates are less than other times of the year.

We have done a number of transatlantic cruises, and often, the cruiseline will offer air specials.
We currently have a transatlantic booked for next April and Celebrity has a $700 air deal that includes transfers. Ours is from Orlando to San Juan and Barcelona to Orlando. You can't touch that price booking it yourself!
We have, a couple of times, found decent air through a consolidator, but those are few and far between.
Good point about checking what the cruise line has to offer.
I recently wrote a post about making arrangements for last minute cruising, which has some links to sites that might be helpful for comparing airfares.
I refer my clients to these websites in addition to my own booking engine of course.
( I rarely book air.) It's amazing what a variety of prices you will find.
I have just returned from a Copenhagen - Fort Lauderdale Transatlantic. My one-way to
Copenhagen from Albany was just over $500. We disembarked in NYC and took the train back home.
Good luck with finding a good airfare. Sometimes, you can rationalize spending the extra on airfare when you get a good rate on the repositioning/TA cruises.

HAL is one cruise line that is starting to throw people for a loop!!
If you choose their air -- they will now require you to pay your entire cruise and air in full at time of booking. This is to guarantee the airline air fare.
But I have read on another site about some terrible stories dealing with HAL air.
One in particular the person not only agreed to pay in full when they chose HAL air, they had chosen to pay the fees for air deviation. Well to make a long story short -- they did not get the flights they wanted -- HAL would not refund their air deviation money because the airline had dropped one of their four flights (2 over to Europe and 2 back). Now because of the changes they were also going to have to fly in a day early (extra hours flying) and pay for a hotel in Rome which now the prices were very high now that they were booking last minute.
