As we get older or our life situations change, our reasons for travel insurance change.

Previously, I used to be more concerned with cancellation insurance vs. the medical reasons for insurance. Now I find myself in new territory and I'm more concerned with medical coverage and evacuation than the cancellation coverage. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to lose money on any trip, but some of my cruise costs, if I'm traveling with a roommate or friend, wouldn't impact me the way an emergency medical situation could.

To that end, does anyone have recommendations for good medical evacuation and medical coverage insurance companies? I've been to insuremytrip.com, but as stated above by Pete, they don't rate the companies.

Can I ask which company the lady who was reimbursed the $100,000 used? Obviously, I'm not going to use the company in the travel protection article!

Thanks for your input Pete. No, ITravel Insured is not the same company. I only became aware of them at Cruise 3 Sixty this year. Just found out my host agency and our consortium Vacation.com uses them. Will let you know how it works out.

I've used CSA and Travel Guard and found them to be very good.

The insurance company she used was Travel Safe and it's one I recommend. We used them for many years and they always handled claims very quickly and fairly - treating our clients very well. We're currently using Access America and have no complaints thus far, but I hated loosing Travel Safe. But these are two companies that rank high on my list. As I mentioned, we've had a few companies, including some big names, that we had to fire because they did not provide good customer service and we had problems with them.

Thank you for the names of the companies.

I've been reading every insurance company's plans all night. What excitement

I've narrowed down my list to 5 companies. The four mentioned above and one that hasn't been mentioned, which is Travelex. The reason they're on my list is that their coverage is primary and not secondary coverage for Medical and Medical Evacuation. Does anyone have feedback on them, good or bad?

    YES!
We have been buying Travelex Travelite. Had one claim that was handled promptly.

For our upcoming cruise I bought directly from the Travelex site and found one that insuremytrip doesn't offer. It is Travelex Travel Select. Has a higher evac allowance and is actually a couple of dollars less than the Travelite.

The fact that it is primary is one less hassle if you need to file a claim.

Thank you for the feedback Char

I'm really leaning more towards Travelex since it's primary coverage. Between my health insurance, home owner's, credit card insurance coverage and who knows what other insurance they may want to exhaust the limits of first (auto even though I don't plan to rent a vehicle?) I agree that it seems like less hassle if I need to file a claim.

Thanks for the info on going direct to the Travelex site and checking out what else there may be

I forgot about Travelex. Haven't used them but heard they are very good, and Char has reinforced that with her personal experience with them.

Does anyone have first hand experience with filing claims with the various insurance companies?

Were the forms easy to fill out?
Did they pay you in a timely manner?
    Who do YOU recommend?
