single supplement

Does any cruiseline give a reduced rate for a single supplement. Someone told me that they sometimes see a discount on singles.

Sometimes they offer 150% instead of 200%

Typically it is for the lowest inside, in particularly Carnival in their 1A cabin.

Cunard have single cabins on QE2 at about 150% the rate for a double. Single supplement for single occupancy of a double cabin is 175% on QE2 and QV. On QM2 it's 200% but that will drop to 175% from next April.

If you are in the UK, P&O do some good deals with as little as 20% supplement, but it's only on selected cruises sometimes its 80% or even 100%.

Normally, a single supplement is twice the cruise fare of one person, referred to as a 200% supplement.

The bad thing is that some cruise lines will apply the supplement only to the cruise fare, while others will apply it to the cruise fare and the port fees. It's sort of unfair to double the port fees, but that's just their little way of screwing the single cruisers and making more money.

As has been stated, sometimes cruise lines will offer a special for singles and only charge 175% or 150%. They use to offer the occasional special where the single supplement was only 125% or even 100%, which was a great deal, but these seem to be a thing of the past. Celebrity use to run these on a regular basis, but haven't in quite a while.

Depending on what you're looking for and whether you want to do it on your own or are interested in sharing, there are some options. Holland America, for example, will put singles together so their rate is reduced. Problem is, you could end up with a roommate that you don't like. But if they can't find you a roommate, then you get the room for 100% supplement and save alot. If you're interested in adventure, you can also try one of the single travel groups, such as Singles Travel International, but again, you'll end up sharing a cabin with a stranger.

Unfortunately, the cruise lines are not offering single rates like they use to - definitely not single-friendly anymore. They figure they can fill a cabin with two people for twice the rate, why should they put a single in there for half the rate?

Guess it's the cost we have to pay for cruises becoming so popular.

Post Just to add to what Pete said

When Carnival started charging 200% for port charges for a single cruiser, the single 1A's were being chrged at 150% cruise fare and 200% port charges. I noticed when pricing a 1A single a few days ago, they are now charging 150% for both the cruise fare and port charges. I don't know if this is the case on all single 1A bookings but that was the case on that particular booking.

There are a couple of cruise lines, NCL for example, that charge 200% for the port fees. This, to me, is inexcusable! By some lines charging 100% port fees and others charging 150% or 200%, that tells me they are simply padding the profit margin at the expense of the single cruisers.

We've had this discussion before. Princess charges close tp 200% for the cruise fare and port charges also.

I agree, it is not right.
