Although some cruise lines will have quotas, such as Princess, so they don't have an abundance of young kids on any one cruise, HAL doesn't do that.
So, to answer your question, no, they will not be able to tell you how many children will be onboard a particular cruise.
However, anytime that school is out of session, there will be more children onboard than during times when school is in session.
HAL is predominately an older crowd, but during the holidays, you'll find alot of children onboard, just not as many as with Princess, Royal Caribbean, and Carnival.
Hope this helps.

A lot will depend on the cruiseline and the destination. We were on a 12/22 cruise two years ago that was 15 days in length, but on Princess and leaving out of Los Angeles. So there was many kids from the California area onboard, because it's easy for West Coasters to get to San Pedro. And I know our local school district (which is the second biggest in the country) takes off three weeks for winter break. Our girl didn't miss a day of school and had a few days to recover. But some little girls from Washington State that she was hanging with were going to miss a week of school.
All together there were 250 kids on our cruise. I imagine a shorter 7-day cruise leaving from the same port would had many more kids onboard.
Sometimes the customer service reps will tell you how many kids onboard, but many won't, even if you have a minor passenger traveling with you. But by sailing time, they will know how many kids will be onboard as they have everyone's birthdays. And they need to have enough staff for the kids' program.

Our HAL cruise in July to Alaska might have had some kids. If so I didn't see any at all and that was a 7 day cruise.
(psssst. not a TA just a cruiser)
