The sooner the better to hold the space and get the best prices. Military rates and other discounts don't get included with the group rates with Carnival...due to the amenities...and the lower group pricing...They can be booked individually but will not count toward you group.
Carnival does offer the lower deposits, but you would be getting just a guarantee cabin until full deposit was done...so selection might be limited by that time...I recommend full deposit...also if the cabin is for a triple or a quad, Carnival requires the $250 pp for those cabins.
Official CLF cruises are sponsored and hosted by CLF staff, stews, admins....
You would be able to get a space in the CLF groups area though. As far as bennies...I did explain that privately...with the things that I personally offer to my CLF groups....
Here is an explanation of different groups here, in a nutshell, not everyone books with same TA, a roll call, group cruises uses a CLF TA, official group cruise is sponsered by adminisitration.
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.
Most people walk into and out of your life . . . but FRIENDS leave footprints in your heart
After reading all of the posts in this forum, I am ready with some ?? regarding a group cruise!
Right now we are interested in the Mexican Riviera sailing of the Carnival Splendor, March 29, 2009. I have 7 couples interested with some possibly bringing children with in their cabin. I have encouraged all to go with balcony cabins as they are the best!!. We would be flying into LA the day before and staying a a hotel near the port. I am very interested in making this an official CLF Group cruise as I think the more the merrier!!! Here goes with the questions...
1. When would be the best time to book to a) get the best prices, b) best perks, etc?
2. Do past guest and military rates, and lower rates for certian home states, (we have some folks from Galveston and Phoenix) come into play for my guests in a group booking if they are offered on that sailing?
3. Is it possible to do say a $50 initial deposit in order to get folks excited?
4. Are there added benefits to being an official CLF Group Cruise??
I am sure I will have more ?? as time goes by but this is a start
Thanks so much for everyone's time!

I sent you a PM and feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I answered all of your questions and I'm sure you have more.
There are several very nice ships doing the Mexican Riviera - you might want to take a look at each of them to determine what's best for your group, not only for the ship, but also for the prices and amenities.
Keep in mind that normally a group consists of a minimum of 8 cabins. So, you might be well advised to find an existing group into which to book so you can get the best prices and amenities without having to try and create your own group. For example, we've already got several groups doing the Mexican Riviera at that time of year because of the popularity. So it's definitely not too early to get started to insure you get what you want.
