Do TA's get alot of Free Cruises?

Do TA's get alot of free cruises. It was stated on the thread "How Do TA's Make Money?" that the job is not that lucrative so how is it they can afford to go on so many cruises? Are the cruiselines giving them a bunch of free ones?

    Yeah, right, not.

I've gotten one free cruise in all the time I've been a TA.

My DSM for RCCL called and said there was a big group cancellation on one sailing
of the Monarch. He needed to sell some cabins quickly as it was fairly close to sailing. He said he would give me a free cabin if I could sell 5 cabins on that cruise.
Well, I made a push and actually sold 7. They were all friends and I was planning on sailing with them. My DSM screwed up and forgot to send the paperwork through and by the time he realized it, the ship was sold out.
I did get to pick another sail date and got a nice upgrade to an SO cabin and had several bottles of wine and champagne sent to my cabin as his apology.

I also did a Seminar at Sea on the Mercury in October of 2003. The entire cost was under $200 for a seven night cruise and I had my own outside cabin. We had classes every sea day for about 4 hours which was 3 days. I learned a lot about the 2 brands that I didn't know before. We also had prepaid gratuities and several bottles of wine sent to our dinner table several nights during the cruise. OH Yes, I forgot to mention, at dinner I was at a table with 5 women and myself. Just fine by me.

I always hear that TA's are going cruising. I guess maybe they were just born rich.

    Born Rich...I wish...

I got my disney cruise in September for a price I couldn't stay home! The ship didn't sell out...so they offered it to Travel Agents...there were over 300 of us on board and we could take 3 others with us for the same price. They gave us a seminar onboard which was wonderful.

I also completed the Princess education and training and became a Commodore level with them and earned a free cruise ... which I paid for an upgraded room on the Star in January...

I am currently working to complete my Commodore level with Cunard as well, and will hopefully earn the free cruise as well...but they are limiting the number.

Travel agents do get discounts, yes...but not on every ship nor every sailing.

I am definitely not making millions, lol...I spend the money I earn travelling...

Remember, my dh works a "real" job.

I have heard before the TA rate on certain sailings and certain ships are as low as $39 a night. I have a friend who cruise on a new ship for 7 days with that rate. He also was given an ungrade when they found out the sailing still had some balconies available on a higher deck. This is the way their family cruises so often. They just can not be too picky on what ship they go on for their cruises.

Do TA's get alot of free cruises? No, not generally...some cruiselines offer incentives, and discounts...some are better than others...and some don't seem to offer dates I am interested in....lol...
