Picnic lunches.

OK, at dinner this evening Karen (DW) and I were talkiing about going ashore for the day. Karen is kind of a germ-o-phobe and is very careful about what she eats or drinks in other countries. She said that she thought we could get a picnic lunch packed by the ship's staff to take with us to a beach. I said I didn't think so, or at least I 've never heard of such think. Any one know about this?

PS, If I'm right, please let me know. If she's right, please lie

I and some friends have simply ordered room service, packed it up when it came, and took it ashore for a picnic.

Sandwiches, cheese & crackers; fruit such as apples, bananas, oranges, peaches, pears; some cookies; and bottled water or canned sodas make a nice low-hassle picnic and can easily be taken ashore in one of your carry-ons. The plates, silverware and napkins too, if you want. Just be nice and bring it all back.

Many countries won't allow you to take food off the ship due to fruit fly issues, contamination, etc. So your best bet is stowaway's suggestion. Get room service (don't tell them that you are wanting it "to go") and pack it away in your backpacks....no one will know the wiser...

However, if you are caught breaking the law of the land, expect to be treated rather harshly, and don't expect the cruise line to come to your rescue. Those rules are in place for a reason, and you are expected to be aware of them.

Cool deal! I certainly see no harm in taking bottled water or sodas. I see little harm in taking a snack either. I'm sure you could take a pre-packaged snack, such as cookies or chips. After all, if you bought them there they would be sealed as well. Last time we sailed we brought trail mix with us (sealed). Made for a nice snack when we were out and about. Juice pouches for small kids would be a good thing too.

This gives me lots of information. If we do take a picnic and get caught, maybe I can make a deal swapping Karen for my freedom. It's worth a try
