Photos -- Do you buy the ones taken by the ship photos?
Actually a multi-part question:
Princess doesn't offer the option of looking at the ship's photos on the in-cabin tv. You have to go to the gallery area (when open) and search for any photos taken of you.
So, what cruiselines do offer the option of looking at and ordering photos via in-cabin tv?
Do you prefer this method and have you had any problems?
Do you even bother with buying the photos and why? Too pricey? Don't like the quality? Don't need more photos? Forget to look until after you disembark?
Can't answer the first 2 questions but the third is easy.
We decline to have our pix taken during the cruise when the photographer is going around for candid shots...would never buy them. They have gotten too expensive, anyway.
We DO have our pix taken on formal nights hoping to get one that is good of both of us! Don't laugh! Sometimes nothing appeals to us! You know..eyes closed ... holding the smile for too long and ending up with the forced smile look...Bob's cuff not showing below his sleeve...lighting shows too many wrinkles!
Our granddaughter is keeping an album with a new formal picture from each year, so we HAVE to find at least 1 good one every year.
Never bought any, Walk right through after checkin, refuse at dinner.
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.
Most people walk into and out of your life . . . but FRIENDS leave footprints in your heart
On our first two or three cruises, before the age of digital cameras, we bought them all. Now we know better. We can always find a friendly cruiser willing to snap a photo for us. Saves a ton of money that way
Emerald Princess, Feb-08, Voyager of the Seas, Nov-07, Osterdam, Mar-07, Radiance Of The Seas,March-06, Zuiderdam,Nov-06.....and 40 others
HAL has you go to the photo gallery to look at any pictures you have had taken -- nothing on the TV.
HAL's pictures have gotten very expensive -- we don't buy them.
We don't even let the photographers take pictures of us at embarkation, in the dining room, formal night or anywhere else since we know that we are not going to buy them.
CLF Navigator - if you need help for Holland America -- ask me -- Yonnie
When the girls were still sailing with us we would often buy the photos. Prices were lots cheaper then!
Now, we might buy one just for our cruise album ... but not always.
LuLu ... Visit SOUTH CAROLINA!

I do like to take a chance that maybe one day I will find a good photo of us. We have some souveniers from past cruises and from cruises with the kids too. We seem to do best with the gang plank shots, fast and natual. We do not do well with the formal pictures no matter how hard we try.
We liked the new feature to view photos on the cabin TV. Much less time taken to find the one or two photos among thousands only to look at it and drop it in the no thanks slot not to mention that it is better than to have so much wasted paper.
Maybe that will keep the costs of the pictures down for those who do want one.
I usually buy the one meeting the captain, and maybe one boarding. But I now decline all the others, I did give in and get one with the Titanic Staircase backdrop.

Cruises booked: Queen Victoria November 2009, QM2 May 2010 and Queen Victoria March 2011.
well, all things considering, the photos are cheap... 20 bucks or so depending on the size is not that bad at all...Think about how much paper and ink get wasted, and how many photos get stolen too - I bet they hardly break even.
Anyway, sigh, yes, we buy the photos. My G/F loves to look and take the photos and loves to buy them... Sigh again, she pays around 100+ bucks a cruise on photos...
I would not mind as much if they actually touched up the photos, but I asked they just batch process... sigh a third time -- waste of camera equipment.
OH -- I do not refuse any, I do most photos, do not take them all. I guess if more people refused or more people who did the photos bought them the prices would be lower...
