Do they allow smoking in corridoors and in open air areas? Decks and such.
Hi
I have not been on QM2 yet so can't give specific advice regarding that ship but this is what the Cunard Voyage Guide has to say on the subject.

"Our ships are non smoking in public rooms except for the clearly defined smoking areas. Smoking is not permitted in any corridor or inside or outsdie of lifts. There is a non smoking policy in all restaurants on board QM2 and QV. QE2 has small smoking sections in all restaurants except Princess Grill. Guests who enjoy pipes or cigars are accommodated in Chruchills Cigar Lounge on board QM2 and QV and designated smoking areas in the Chart Room, Golden Lion and Open Decks on board QE2."

I hope this helps.

I am sure if you book on QM2 you will love it

From a smoker who has stopped many times and working on hopefully his last time...

Because of the health issues they do not want smoke around period. "New Studies" blah blah, we have known for years that they are bad for you, hence why some people go through the complete agony of trying to quit.

We did fine up to this point, we can do fine past this point...

Smoking is a social event, even non-smokers smoke a cigar or heck even a cigg while having a few cocktails... But, cruise lines are just following the paths of all the states... Like NY/NJ No smoking anywhere. No Bars, No nothing...

Heck there is smoking sections at outdoor theme-parks...

Thank you all for your responses. Thank you 'Char'. Nice welcome.

Looks like Cunard is out for us. Their smoking policies seem to coincide with the ''Non peeing section in a pool'' analogy. Someone pasted excerpted info from Cunard which states in part a little about how Cunard now only has ''smoking sections'' in public areas. Cool! They went fro ''non peeing section'' to a ''peeing section''. HA! HA! A little humor here.

Sk8ter, the entire smoking thing has been imballanced for so long no one knows what to do. I have proof that the conflicts and strife are only a result of simply procrastinating. It is purely economical. Hong Kong has almost 7 million folk. They have no smoking everywhere AS W E L L as no littering (throwing butts on ground) There are no N O ! butts on the ground. Italy went COUNTRY wide no smoking virtualy overnight!!!! I was convinced that the Italiens taught their children how to smoke in school! It was that bad! Smoking is not a social (social implies public) event. It is an indulgence. A recreational event. It just so happens that this recreational item also causes problems with its side effects.
Smokings history is wild. HECK It was encouraged in the 40's and 50's!!!!

I have narrowed my search and am communicating with 3 different lines: Oceania, Azamara and MSC.

We'll see.

Have you checked the MSC smoking policy? Would you be doing a cruise in Europe or other itinerary? I do believe that you will encounter more smokers on a European itinerary.....that has been my experience, anyway.

I assumed this too! but assuming gets one bad results. I check all with no bias until something bad happens. As it turns out, MSC has what appears to be pretty good policies. I am still researching it though.

You make some valid point! Personally I would like seeing smoking less in places. It is disgusting, and unhealthy hence why I have been trying to stop for many years. Sometimes I do well, and do not smoke for months on end... I actually get very angry with myself when I pick up another butt, but I look at it as the nature of the addiction and hopefully I will soon be rid of this nasty habit forever.

But I will say this, each time I do stop, the smell alone is unbearable, gets all over clothing and yuck. So, it is nice to go to a bar and not stink when you get home.

I just think that people should be allowed to smoke in outdoor places, however this would require ashtrays every 2 feet that would stink up the place... So, what to do?

But you are right when you say people think they should be allowed to smoke wherever and I think that is bogus, if someone does not like the smell or is allergic or whatever they should have an option to avoid it...

I remember this summer I was at an amusement park and we were in line to get on a skyride, the guy in front of us was planing to and did smoke on it... I was completely annoyed by this, I did not say anything as the guy was much larger then me . Seriously though, he could have hurt someone below by dropping his butt, burned down the ride, or god knows what else... He was also a bit drunk, so I guess his common sense was out the door.

I'm a non-smoker, not a anti-smoker, but it's nice to walk into a restaurant and not have it stink of smoke. I even enjoy the food a little better. Restaurants really didn't accommodate the non-smokers, with smoking sections divided by half a wall in most places. Personally, places of business shouldn't have to accommodate a habit, IMO.

I've always found it funny how much control this little plant wrapped in paper has over a person. I see people at my place of business shuffle out for their smoke break every hour like clockwork, as if some invisible force is drawing them out of their chair, try to stop them then you're violating a constitutional right that they forgot to put in the constitution. Then I think to myself, even alcoholics can go 8 hours, and consuming alcohol is a constitutional right.

Cunard Smoking Policy as per website

Please select the category that best describes your question:

On Board
function imgWindow(imgName) {newWindow=window.open(imgName,'sample', 'toolbar=no,scrollbars=yes,directories=no,width=70 0,height= 550,resize=no')} What is the smoking policy onboard Cunard ships? For the comfort and convenience of all guests, elevators, and some restaurants and public rooms have been designated as non-smoking. Many public rooms offer both smoking and non-smoking areas. Guests who enjoy pipes or cigars are accommodated in Churchill's Cigar Lounge onboard QM2, and in the Chart Room, Golden Lion Pub, Crystal Bar and open decks onboard QE2. We ask that guests refrain from smoking pipes or cigars in other enclosed public areas of the ship. Aboard QM2, each public room and bar have designated smoking sections and all restaurants are non-smoking. Aboard QE2, each restaurant provides a small section designated to cigarette smoking with the exception of the Princess Grill, which is non-smoking. Each public room and bar have designated smoking sections. The elevators, theatres and library are designated as non-smoking.
