I agree completely, and I am a non-smoker (except for the occasional cigar). On our last cruise I was astounded at the lack of activity in Bar City on the Pearl. I equate this to the no smoking policy. The cruise prior to this one Bar City was a very bustling area with smokers and non-smokers mingling just fine. The non-smokers got what they wanted and now the places are essentially empty. JMHO!!

Very interesting. Our state recently went non smoking in all public areas. Since then the majority of the charitable bingo halls have closed, the charitable pull tabs are down 40%, many bars have closed. Last night a popular restrurant by the U of M campus will close the end of the month after over 20 years there. They said the main reason was the smoking ban. I blame the ANTI-smokers for this. They got their way, now where are they to support these businesses? It's such a shame. If they weren't going there anyway, why did they care if there was smoking there?
My best friend and I travel together a lot, we get a non smoking room, no problem as I smoke in the smoking areas. She has never condemmed me for it. I believe I have always been a considerate smoker. I believe it is the ANTI-smokers who causing all these laws to be made, NOT the NON-smokers. JMO

Char, I have felt this way for a long time. I am blessed with many friends, all my life, and still close with some childhood ones (my cruise buddy and I have been friends since grade school). More than half of these friends don't smoke and we have no problems doing things together. When they come to my house I just don't smoke around them, out of respect. I do know the smell is still in the house but they don't complain about that and they are over frequently, so it must be ok. I won't even smoke in my car if I am driving.
On the other hand, our friends and neighbors......she is a smoker and he is an ANTI. He makes her smoke outside (and it was her house first and she smoked in it). After they got married we had them for dinner 2-3 times and he said some nasty things about smoking in our house. That was it for me.....I have her over when he is out of town. They still have us over and I feel kinda bad we don't reciprocate anymore, but she understands, too bad.
My friends are very important to me and I believe in compromise, not being dictated to.
