It's a personal thing whether you want a sign for your door. For our last cruise, I did make a sign that identified my screen name and said "Happy Holidays." I let my little one add some holiday drawings to it. A lot of people on that cruise also decorated their doors with holiday decorations too. But some others don't want any identification and may even remove the little name plate that Princess will put next to your inbox (where the cabin steward puts the Patters and ads for the spa, art auction, etc.).
If you do decorate your door, just make sure you don't put anything that you can't afford to lose as sometimes signs and magnets have disappeared from what I've read.

On a cruise that ZZKAT w/ family and ReggieRail I made a bunch of door signs and used clear contact paper over them. Then I added magnets to the back. Kathy and Reggie have used their signs on other cruises.
I put mine in scrapbooks of the cruise.
