I'm planning a cruise next year from Bangkok to Beijing, visiting ports in China, Japan, Viet Nam, Singapore, and Taiwan. I need to know if visa is required when visiting these countries on a cruise.
I know that visitors going to Thailand don't need a visa unless they are planning on staying for an extended period of time.
However, entry into and out of China for any US citizen does require a visa from the Chinese embassy. You can get single or multiple entry visas. Check out the Chinese embassy's website for more information.

I have just received my visas for a Sapphire Princess cruise that starts Nov. 2, 2007. We start in Beijing and end in Bangkok. I needed double enty visa for China, one for getting to Beijing and the other for Shanghai. Then, a visa is required into Vietnam. Princess said they would arrange the visa for each port day of arrival for $7.00. But, since we were flying back into the county, I ended up getting a multi-entry visa. None of the other countries listed on your tour needs a visa. Good luck and have a great trip.
