The departure point for Antigua's Stingray swim is lovely and peaceful

I agree, we didn't really care for Antigua either. However, we did have an amazing time on the island as we booked a Zipline Canopy Tour and it was one of the highlights of our trip! Other than that, the island didn't overly impress us so we were glad we decided to book this excursion while we were there.

avgulik .... How good of you to take the time to tell us the "Zip-Line Canopy" is well worth taking!

The only excursion we did NOT like was the catamaran to Bird's Island. The beach there was way overcrowded and not very clean. At least the catamaran was not crowded and very nice....

We look forward to returning to Antigua!

Thanks LuLu.We are considering an itenerary on the Freedom in 2010 that goes to Antigua.Which beach would you reccomend? The catamaran sounds nice.
Also, did you book through the cruiseline or independently? Thanks.

We've always booked our catamaran excursions through the ship. If we were to do an independent, it would be with Eli (Adventure Antigua). We've only heard wonderful things about Eli's Tours (Adventure Antigua).

Way back, we loved taking a taxi to Long Bay Beach (about a 25 minute taxi ride from the cruise dock) ... but it's been so long since we've been there for us to recommend what it's like now. (The snorkeling wasn't very good but it was absolutely lovely.)

People who enjoy the beach/water activities normally love Antigua!

"Sewer" smell is more accurate than you think.

I was there a long time ago. The ship had engine problems and we arrived hours late. You couldn't really do much with the time limitation and the nicer looking shops were all closed. I assumed they thought the ship was not going to make it.

My husband decided to check out a bar. I remember it was on a second floor. I was going to look around at some of the shops and meet him back there. Well, I didn't see much and went back to the bar. He was standing outside. He said the place couldn't be described and it didn't even qualify as a "dive". Needless to say he didn't even get one drink.

We walked around and went down a side street. The side walk was made of wooden boards and guess what was running underneath it. Raw Sewage. We went to the casino and had a couple of drinks.

Although I would never set foot into this town again, I would like to go back and spend time at one of the beaches.

It 's very hard for one to judge a Island just by it's down town or it's shopping. Antigua is a very prety Island. Nelson's dockyard and lots more.

Are you planning a cruise to St.Thomas V.I.

Yes, you are correct. Many islands have more to offer than a town or shopping.

Like I said, I would like to go back to Antiqua and spend some time at the beaches.
