I was in Alaska on the Star Princess from Sept 6 and the only day that it didn't rain was the last day in Victoria BC. Every day that we were in Alaska, we had nothing but rain

Big4Chaps, no, we didn't experience any wind, thank goodness! I was inland, not on the inside passage that week, so thank goodness we missed that! I can get very seasick, so I would NOT have enjoyed that!

I'm *SO* glad you had such better weather this time! Alaska is hit or miss; you just never know what you're going to get, but it's so spectacular, it's worth it! I'm glad you had good weather on the train in Skagway. I loved that train ride, and the views are awesome.

By the way, a friend of mine who used to live in Ketchikan told me it rains there about 95% of the time! So the odds were against you! During the 14-day cruisetour I took 3 years ago, the only full day of rain we got was in Ketchikan! (It rained the afternoon in Juneau after a gorgeous morning). But, as you say, it's mostly a drizzle, so doesn't spoil things too badly.

Congrats on a great trip!

speedball -- I'm so sorry you somehow managed to get all the rain! That somehow doesn't seem fair! Maybe next time?

My daughter moved to Juneau the middle of July 2009. She said that they (SE Alaska) predict sunshine like the Southwest US predicts rain! LOL!

I guess I was better prepared for Alaska this time. Since it was 10 days later in the year than the last time & knowing it was the rainy season, I went prepared! I really did think the weather was wonderful for that time of year. I didn't get that cold, even when we were in Glacier Bay or when I was hanging out of the train taking pictures.

I think the secret is for everyone to expect rain 100% of the time because it's a rainforest there & realize if you're close to glaciers, maybe there's a reason they don't melt every summer!

So, if you didn't take the inside cruise, where did you go & how did you get around? I'm real interested to know because I'm still trying to figure out how we're going to visit Juneau next year & see other places in Alaska.

We cruised twice to Alaska this year. 5/30 and 8/29
Both trips we saw less that 1/2 day of rain and the temps were is the 70īs. They were great trips.

I think that's really good advice!

I actually took a land tour. Disney has a relatively new division called "Adventures by Disney". I took an 8-day tour with them (plus a day added on at the beginning in Fairbanks, and 2 days added at the end in Anchorage). We saw Fairbanks, Denali, the Kenai Penninsula (Girdwood, Seward, the Fjords) and Anchorage. Really fun tour, saw & did a lot of great stuff.
