    shops closed after Labor Day?

I've been told by a trusted friend, she heard from a client that if you travel to Alaska after Labor Day, many of the shops and attractions are already closed for the season. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

That hasn't been our experianace. Labor day does not coincide with the end of the Alaska cruise season. The last cruise ship determines the end of the season. We have cruised Alaska twice in September (as late as the 21st) and found that most shops are having end of season sales. Did not notice that any were already closed. The season is so short that they will stay till the last passenger leaves. I suppose that if a shop has sold all of their items that they might close before the final cruise of the season, but I did not notice any that were already closed.

As for "attractions", I also did not notice that anything was closed. Whale watching might not be the best in late September as the whales start to migrate to Hawaii, but the excursions still run because of all the other wildlife to see.

As Char has already stated, they don't close shops and attractions after Labor Day, at least not in the highly traveled areas. There are some in remote locations that do not get alot of tourists after Labor Day that will close, but if you do a regular cruise, you will not have any problems.

My 1st Alaska Cruise I boarded the ship on Labor Day. All shops were open in each port.

That's the last of them for next year - all cruise lines are now available.
