Anchorage to Seward on the Alaska Railroad

Alaska Railroad Grandview Train - Anchorage to Seward on the Alaska Railroad
If your Alaska cruise embarks or disembarks in Seward, you will need a transfer to or from Anchorage, which is 127 miles away.

Cruise passengers can choose either a 3-hour bus transfer or a 4.5-hour ride on the Grandview Train of the Alaska Railroad. The train runs directly between the Anchorage airport and the cruise pier in Seward. The train fare is about 40 to 50 percent more than the bus, but the wilderness train route is more scenic and relaxing, passing by picturesque glaciers, waterfalls, lakes, rivers, and mountains. In addition, the road is very busy in the summer and circles around the mountains, so you won't get as close to the glaciers. These photos were taken from the Grandview train on our way to meet the Seven Seas Mariner in Seward.

I was just going to ask the best way from Seward to an airport. Thank you, Char!

Neal, we have never taken the train, but I would really like to next time we do the north or southbound.

The other times we used the bus provided by the cruise line (for a nominal fee, of course!) It is a very scenic route between Seward and Anchorage....either by bus or train.
