What to Pack for an Alaska Cruise??

Even in July.........what do you pack for an Alaska cruise or cruise/tour? I have heard the outdoor pools aren't used and it is closed and too cold to use.

Do I even need to pack shorts?

We have never been but are going in July.........

So what do I really need to pack???????

All help appreciated to take the right clothes and stay under the 50 lb airline limit

That's a good question! I'm going next July. I have a friend that went in July a few years ago and she did wear shorts some of the time. I'll have to ask her about it and I'll let you know what she said.

I lived in shorts in July unless I was on the water, then you will want a jacket, likely and maybe capris I would pack at least one pair of jeans too for the water. It was actually warmer in Skagway my 2 years there than it was where my parents were in Spokane, Washington.

For the glacier days you will want a warmer jacket.

Dont forget comforatable walking shows and while youre off ship, there is NO formal. "Alaska formal" means no flannel LOL. Prety much anything goes though. Think Hawaii. Its the same laid back attitude.

Jim, Nita just got back from one also. When are you going to Alaska and out of what port?

The cruise ships still have a formal night or two. The rest of the time is very casual, both on the ship and the land. A hint. They refer to the mosquito as the state bird. They are about the same size as a hummingbird and vicious. While it can get warm there, you might want to wear long pants just to keep the rascals away!

July or August of 07 ..............but are doing the Canadian Rockies by train for 5 days from Calgary to Vancouver and then the Serenade of the Seas Inside Passage for 7 days roundtrip out of Vancouver.........

With the airline baggage limitation..........you have to pack right on this one for 12 days.........
