We just got back last week from a 2-week Alaskan cruisetour with Holland America, which was awesome!!

Before we went, I researched binoculars and after talking to alot of people, decided on getting a pair of Pentax 20X60 PCF WP II. They are more powerful than most binoculars you'll see and are a bit overkill. But the funny thing was, everyone in our group wanted to use ours because they were so much better than what they had. They were wonderful and we are so glad we bought them. We shopped around and found them for $199 with free shipping. These are waterproof and will not fog up under any condition. The optics on the cheaper ones are not as good and will fog up. Yes, these are considerably more expensive, but we looked at it as an investment for us to use for many many years. They are wonderful and I would buy them again in a heartbeat as well as recommend them to anyone wanting an excellent pair of binoculars.

We use them alot around our house. We have a lake behind us and we have a large deck on the house, so we sit out back and look at birds, at the stars, the moon, and every now and then we can see the space station. Here's a link for that; Human Space Flight (HSF) - Realtime Data

We also take them with us to sporting events, especially the Redskins games!

But they are very powerful and whatever you use binoculars for, these will get you a better view. I'm very happy with the fact the don't fog up and are waterproof.

Dear Hubby bought a pair of Bushnell 9 x 27 (50mm)... on sale for $60 (list $230) at Big5.
These seem nice. Rubber coated. Should work well.

I kind of went overkill for our Alaskan trip last year. I bought some 20x140x70 binoculars(military Spec) with a tripod, and everyone was telling me "Hey let us know if you see something so that we can get ready to see it." They will be going with me again because getting a close up of a glacier like that is priceless! I also bought some Bushnell 20x50 binos for my Wife and Daughter to use sine my Wife complained that the big ones were too heavy for her to use.

The old problem, weight verses power. I cheat and use the telephoto lens on my camera.

Indecision, indecision. Do I keep on the camera looking for the perfect shot, or do I flip between camera and binoculars.......
