Today's news:
The FRENCH have captured 11 pirates!
French forces , launched an early morning attack on a pirate ship . . . The raid thwarted the bandits' planned attack on the Liberian cargo ship Safmarine Asia . . .
The statement called the pirate vessel a "mother ship" — usually a seized foreign ship that pirates use to transport speedboats far out to sea and resupply them. The ship was intercepted 550 miles east of the Kenyan city of Mombasa.
The 11 detained pirates were being held on . . . a French frigate . . . France already is holding several pirates for prosecution.

If the FRENCH can do it, anyone can do it! Why aren't they?
Both France and the US have several warships in the area right now. Guess they were the lucky ones this time.
FYI, the area that they are covering is over twice as big as the whole state of Texas. That is a lot of ground, err... sea.
Neal - you underestimated ... it is bigger than that - more like 4times the size of TX - and getting bigger, as the pirataes expand theeir reach.
The ones the French just captured were farther south, and 550 miles out to sea.
I thought I heard it was three times but I was erring on the side of caution. But you are right, they are expanding their area of attacks and like I said, that is a very big area.
Simple solution!
The USA should stop feeding them, and neuter them instead!
I say let these North African beggars do some work for a change and grow their own food! Ok there are some places where they can't, but the African way is to kill the farmers for the land and then they ask the USA to feed them while they over populate the stolen land!
Sorry but this is a very touchy issue here at the moment with thousands of farmers killed and arrable land taken from them only to be turned into desert!
As for the pirates...nuke em! A dead pirate tells no lies! Its the African way, so keep it that way...no point in nice holiday prison cells if they would ever get that far!
Nutty Grandad
Cruising South Africa

Grandad, you voice the sentiments of a lot of folks! It's a situation that has flourished for too long.
And it is an unfortunate fact that the land can just sustain a certain number of people without industrialized agriculture. When food supply or methods of farming change for a short period of time, population increases. If the food or assistance does not continue there are now too many mouths to feed and the consequences are the obvious.
On this side of the world, you are seeing the same thing in Haiti.
