Tripoli ... Libya still at it

    From the Costa Cruises website:

As a result of inconsistent policies within the Libyan overnment, please be advised that all guests that are of American ationality, or of another nationality born in the United States of America, will not be allowed to disembark at our scheduled port of
call, Tripoli. However, you will be allowed to stay onboard during the call.

According to the site, holders of the following passports are not allowed to enter the country:

    • US passports (native born or otherwise
    • Israeli passports
    • Any nationality passport containing an Israeli stamp (ever)
For more info, here's the page from the Costa website:

Seaborn Skipping Libya this year ...

Seabourn Cruise Line announced that it has cancelled calls in Libya scheduled for the Seabourn Spirit and Seabourn Legend in 2007, due to that country’s refusal to permit entry for its guests traveling on U.S. passports

http://www.cruiselinefans.com/cruise...7-cruises.html (Seabourn Drops Libya from 2007 Cruises)

The change affects two cruises, the first of which is a 12-day voyage aboard Seabourn Spirit from Alexandria, Egypt to Rome, departing May 7, 2007. The second affected cruise is an 11-day voyage aboard Seabourn Legend, sailing between Rome and Lisbon on October 27, 2007.

I am a British citizen and even if I were on a cruise with a Libya port-of-call, I wouldn't get off and give them my dosh. Enough pleasant and unthreatening places in the world to visit.

The guy is a total lunatic, and I really don't think any Westerner should feel totally safe there. Just MHO. Except Smitty of course - they wouldn't dare mess with him!!

    Sorry for the rant!!

Isn't that about 70 miles from Tripoli? Obviously, if you are still into ruins, it should be spectacular.

Unfortunately, we are ruined out, cathedralled out, islanded out - in fact, totally boring and jaded!!! So boring, that we now cruise for the ship and not the ports. Except for the Navigator in October with an overnight in Istanbul. I like shouks!!! Not shouked out - yet!!! But Istanbul could be cancelled - sometimes is, 'cos of terrorists. In that case, I can spend my time annoying Darlene if she's on board!!! Hehehehe!!!
