Royal Caribbean to home port Adventure of the seas in Malaga, Spain

The cruise ship ‘Adventure of the Seas’, belonging to Royal Caribbean, will start and finish 21 voyages from the Port of Málaga during 2010. The decision of the company was announced in the International Tourism Show (FITUR), recently held in Madrid.

The presentation was chaired by the Town Councillor of Tourism and Sports, Mr. Elías Bendodo and the president of the Port Authority, Mr. Enrique Linde, who emphasized the importance of that decision for Málaga city as a home port.

On the other hand, the Manager Director of Royal Caribbean in Spain, Mrs. Belén Wangüemert, talked about “the importance of the collaboration between the port and the city”, to welcome to the tourists arrived at the port facilities.

    Features of the vessel
The cruise ship ‘Adventure of the Seas’ is 311 metres long and has the capacity to hold 3,114 passengers on board.

Moreover, the vessel belongs to Voyager family, which means that it contains a lot of sports areas such as an ice skating rink, a basketball court and a climb wall. Like ‘Navigator of the Seas’, it has a street with shops and restaurants inside the ship, called ‘Royal Promenade’.

Royal Caribbean in the Port of Málaga
The shipping line is very interested in Málaga port facilities to bring its ships. Last year, the cruise ship ‘Independece of the Seas’ considerated the biggest vessel in the world, made its first call in the Port of Málaga. In 2009, the ship ‘Vision of the Seas’, belonging to Royal Caribbean too, will visit the city for the first time.

Moreover, ‘Navigator of the Seas’ will call 8 times during Autumn this year, information which was announced by the shipping line in 2008.

Other cruise ships belonging to the Royal Caribbean fleet that will visit the Port of Málaga during 2009 are ‘Splendour of the Seas’ in November, and ‘Brilliance of the Seas’, between January and March.

This is very good news for us. I am looking forward to see the itineraries.

Malaga is a beautiful city and easy to get to from Madrid and Barcelona for passengers flying from overseas.

Also, for winter cruises the weather in Malaga is more pleasant then Barcelona.

According to the press release put out by the Malaga port authorities and RCI the Adventure of the Seas will sail 25 voyages out of Malaga between June 26 and November 28 2010.
The cruises will be 5 and 7 days in length.
Between June 26 to October 9, the ship will offer 15 seven-night itineraries calling at Cagliari (Sardinia), Rome, Ajaccio (Corsica) and Palma de Mallorca.
From October 9 to November 28, it will offer 10 five-night cruises, alternating between -- Tenerife and Funchal, and Ajaccio and Villefranche.

These itineraries are not new for Royal Caribbean. The Navigator of the Seas are doing a series of 6 short cruises from Malaga to the same destinations.
The 7 days itinerary is slightly more interesting with the stops in Sardinia, Corcica and Mallorca. A bit different then your "normal" 7 days Western Mediterranean itinerary.

There is a special place in our hearts for the Adventure, as she was our very first cruise ship. The staff and service were absolutely wonderful and the captain could have kept me calm in any situation.

This is really great news for you, Lars. The Adventure is a beautiful ship with lots of options, so it would be a fun one to cruise to those awesome ports.

    Thank you, Sonja.

We have cruised the Voyager so are familiar with the layout. I like the Voyager class of ships. They are big but managable, and ofcourse the Royal Promenade, the ice rink is fantastic.

The itineraries the Adventure of the seas will be doing are are good also. I have never been to the Canary Islands so this will be a perfect opportunity.

I had always thought the Canary Islands were an untapped resource by RCCL. How long does it take to get to the Canary's from the main land via cruise ship?

Royal Caribbean stops in the Canary Islands on their Trans Atlantic cruises, andhas done so for a while now. The Navigator of the seas will be doing a serie of 5 days cruises to the islands from Malaga in October and November this year and the Brilliance of the Seas started doing 10 days cruises from Barcelona to the Canary Islands and Morroco in December 08 and will continue to do them until May.

From Malaga it will take one sea day to reach the Islands.

This means a different or new ship for San Juan, I guess?

I think you are guessing right.
No news yet as to which ship will be taking over for the Adventure of the Seas the 6 months she is away from the Caribbean.

Or, she's rotating every six months? Then they probably won't replace her. She'll be back in six months, for the winter season in the Caribbean, that's it.
