Question Purchasing pictures from the cruise line

Would you like to have access to the pictures that were taken of you by the ship's photographers after the cruise?

Sometimes I don't always get a chance to see the photos taken late in the cruise. Or not quite sure about which ones to get. But I've been going on Princess cruises and they don't identify the photos so I can't see how they could track down a specific photo.

I also wonder about memory issues, even if they did.

They could implement facial recognition software maybe? Memory issues? Hard Drives are cheap it would cost nothing to keep photos for a few months or more after a cruise - although we might get into privacy issues - but verbal approval to take the photo was given so ... ?

Personally because of the cost, I would rarely buy one. I can only guess they would charge about 75 bucks for a digital print... Any Photographers out there agree??

On our first cruise my wife's luggage was dropped in the Hudson river when we returned. The pictures we bought were soaked, but by the numbers on the back the photographer was able to replace all of them. If they can do that, they should be able to set up a computer system to post them after the cruises, just like most weddings do today. You would probably have to search by day and place taken just like on the ship, but I don't see why they couldn't do that.

Celebrity must have some kind of facial recognition software because they have terminals near the photography section where you can insert your room key and it pops up pictures of you taken throughout the ship and on the gangway with Dolphins , Pirates , bears etc.

They could then tie the pictures to your account with Captains club or similar and make them available. And, as Dan said, memory is cheap.

It could be something they can try as I'm sure many people don't think about the photos til maybe they get home. Since I don't upload my photos from my camera until then, I sometimes think about the locations on the ship that I never got a photo of. I think this time between hubby and I, we did a good job And he did buy some photos from the ship's photography center the first week. On a few cruises we did check near the end of the cruise but it can be pretty hectic (at least with Princess as the photos are only viewable in the galley) at that time.

Considering that I usually studiously try to avoid the ship's photographers, I guess it doesn't matter to me!

I have, however, been known to buy one or two prints - especially from formal night.

I am always astounded (and, frankly, appalled) by the huge amount of waste a week's cruise produces in unwanted photos.

Would it be possible to have montitor stations on which one could view the day's photos, maybe also selecting where prints might be wanted.

I'm sure the technology could be worked out, but probably it wouldn't help the cruise lines' bottom line!

Usually let them take as many as they want but at those prices and quality most stay onboard in the trash bin.

I am not expert in building systems but they already have things like this on board. There are a few places you can go to see your prints after swiping your card (at least on Royal). So the question is how much more to implement enough stations for all to use... I think it is doable and should reduce cost for all the labor involved in printing and the cost of wasted materials...

My questions is ... would you sell as many photos? Some people hate technology or have trouble with it, they would have trouble navigating it and just give up and not buy any photos...So would the system get used?

My suggestion is roll it out little by little and see if it takes off...
