    laundry valet

My logic goes like this: You are on vacation, which means getting away from everything you have to do at work and home, so you really don't want to waste time doing the laundry on a cruise ship. Everyone hates doing that chore at home, right? For that reason, it would make more sense to pack enough for two weeks if your luggage does not exceed 50 pounds with that much stuff. If you are sailing to a warm climate, that will be easy to do.

My plan is to request valet laundry if that service is available (I read Princess offers it) on a long cruise. I wish all cruise lines offered that on long itineraries.

Most, if not all, cruiselines offer laundry and dry cleaning services. You will usually find a laundry bag with list hanging in the closet. Put in items to be cleaned or laundered, fill out the list and leave it for your cabin steward. The next day your items will be returned to you and your onboard account will be charged for the service. We leave the bag on the bed in the morning before we go to breakfast. The steward takes it when he cleans the room.

Sometimes there is a laundry special (wash & fold) offered for a set amount per bag rather than a per item charge.

I just can't see paying laundry service prices for my undies, etc. And then risking shrinkage (I never use hot water anymore when I do laundry and often air dry or remove items when almost dry). Plus the allergy problem. And combine that with a hubby who likes to keep luggage down even when we're driving to our local port.

Since we're doing longer cruises or combining cruises with a land trip, we need to do a few loads of laundry, but hubby and I do it together and it really doesn't take that long, once we get an available machine, that is.

So even when we get to the Captain Circle status that gets us free laundry, at least some of it will be done by me. But that's okay. Then if my favorite shirt gets ruined, it's my fault.

And that is about our attitude, too.
