two hotel recommendations for London:
City Inn: modern, near Parliament and Tate Museum; very clean, well run.
London Elizabeth, off of Hyde Park, small, will remind you in a good way of Fawlty Towers, but very personal, nice little restaurant, a nice and even smaller bar, great service, great location. Was where the Polish Air Force stayed in WW2. Less expensive than City Inn, has some nice deals in the off season too.
Both are convenient to Tube; both have typical small hotel rooms, although London E's bathrooms are a bit bigger than the City Inn, they do have interesting baths. If you plan on watching TV, go to City Inn, they have satellite. London e's TV leaves a lot to be desired, but I didn't go to London to watch TV.
