I'd be happy with a nice beach with chairs for rent and maybe an umbrella and snackbar.
So, tell me whats there?

Ruth: I have been to Freeport many times over the past 25 years and until about 5 years ago, there was much to do there. Unfortunately one of the largest attractions there, the old Princess Hotel and Casino, was sold and then closed and there is not a great deal to do in Freeport. This closing had a huge impact on the economy of Grand Bahama.
If you want a beach day, check with the Westin and/or Sheraton at Port Lucaya--they sometimes offer day passes and their facilities are about the best on the island. Some cruise ship passengers go to Taino Beach but I have never been a fan of it--somewhat desolate and you must make arrangements with taxi driver to be picked up since it is in the middle of nowhere.
There are shops and restaurants at Port Lucaya--some of the restaurants are great for lunch(my favorite is the little Greek place) but the shops are just your typical touristy things. There is a Columbian Emeralds and I have managed to get a few good deals there over the years.
Bottom line is that if you want a nice beach with bathrooms, food, etc, I would check with the hotels I mentioned.
Hope this is helpful,
Bettie
