Smile TRINIDAD: Maracus Beach - Report

Ship's Excursion - $42 pp - 4 Hours prox

You go in a taxi (4 people per taxi max) through the mountains (which, per our driver, is actually an on-the-edge of the Asa Wright Rain Forest) to get to the beach. Lots of photo opts of the harbor and ship below.

It's a magnificent drive! Everything is GREEN ... very possible shade of green ... from the darkest black/blue greens to the lightest silver greens! There were gentle showers several times which made looking down at the sunny coastline and beaches even more interesting.

Maracus Beach is a very pretty palm lined but rustic beach which is on the Atlantic so there are real waves. Nice clean gently sloping even beach -- no adrupt drop-offs! We rented beach chairs, bought a couple of bottles of beer ( ok ... more than a couple), and had a great time!

Our taxi driver was The Best! He took us through a "gated community" (he knew the security guard). Couldn't help but notice that even within the security gates every one of these large houses still had security bars on all windows....
Also, as we requested, he drove us thought the heart of the city where normal folks shop, work, and play. Quite a lively place!

Honestly, it's not a place to be wandering around alone. Find a Ship's tour or a good taxi!

At the cruise terminal there's a vendor market with T-Shirts, etc. with the nicest "non-pushy" vendors. We bought some coffee.

Please do SOMETHING in Trinidad! It's a beautiful island!
