Tortola: BREWER'S BAY BEACH - Report
Often called "Secret Beach - Brewer's Bay" as an excursion by the ship. Prox 4 hours - $49 pp. Our excursion time was listed from 1 - 5 in the afternoon.
We (21 of us) met at the pier at 12:50 PM and were on our way in a roomy Open-Air-Safari-Truck for the "Scenic Drive" to Brewer's Bay by 1 o'clock.
People pay big time money at amusement parks for THRILL RIDES much tamer rides than this one was! OUR DRIVER WAS FEARLESS! He didn't allow the very narrow poorly maintained rut-filled steep (like going straight down) roads over mountains (1,500 ft.above sea level) and back down again again to the bay to keep him from maintaining his BRISK speed! (It's about a 30 "thrill-a-minute" drive.)
WOW! The NATURAL beauty of this place was awesome -- a very LARGE palm & sea grape lined cove with a white sand beach and clear gentle blue water!! Easy to feel as if it looked about the same hundreds of years ago when it was first discovered!
The VERY clean beach area -- gentle slope into crystle clear water -- was totally free of sea grass, etc. Rather good snorkeling could be found toward one edge of the cove ... especially, lots of large fish. Beach chairs were rented for $5 ea. with ample room to place on this UNCROWDED beach ... either in the sun or shade.
"Brewer's Bay Bar & Grill" (rustic beach bar) was the only establishment (very COLD beer ). NO motorized water sports/toys and No Pesty Vendors!!!
Our driver told us that since we didn't have to be back until 5:30 (ALL ABOARD 5:30 ... Sail at 6:00), he'd pick us up at about 5:10 so we could have as much time as possible at the beach. Because it was a ship's excursion, a tender was waiting when we returned at 5:45 ....
The BAD thing about this excursion (horrid roads) actually is a GOOD thing (keeps many away)!
Would we do it again? YES - YES - YES!!!
