Last year (05) we had a port stop in Guadelope! It really was the ONLY Caribbean island that we have not liked! Never, have I felt so unwelcomed any place on this plant!  (This place makes Paris seem like a Welcome Center for Americans. )
A big factor probably was that our shore excursion was cancelled at the last minute due to transporation problems with the operator ... so we were stuck in town with locals who did not want us there!
Bottom Line: Take some sort of shore excursion!
Would also love to hear from others who have been to Guadeloupe. If we ever have another port stop there, it would be helpful to know what to do!
