The farewell is normal and somewhat touching. Lots of people driving up blowing horns and flashing lights. Some music. Lots of Thank Yous. Some We Love Yous.
The cynics say they are thanking you for spending so much money, but so what. It's something they don't have to do and I don't recall anything quite like that in any other port.
Don't be in a hurry for a shower or dinner - it's something not to be missed, if possible - at least not the first time. Who knows how long they will continue doing it?
