Smile "A Day at Jungle Reef Beach w/Lunch" REPORT

"A Day at Jungle Reef Beach w/Lunch"

Ships Excursion -- 7 1/2 Hours

Good one for folks who like to swim/snorkel and have already been to St.Lucia many times.

NOTE: The excursion is marked "moderate" activity level. We've been on many others marked "substantial" activity level that required much less effort.

After a fairly long walk we boarded a rather large dive boat for an hours ride along the coast. Very pretty scenery all the way. As we approached, we were changed over to a tour boat that was able to pull right up to the beach.

The area really did look like a jungle! The director, a very nice & well informed man, told us about the place and what activities were available. He also said that they limited the number on the excursion to 32. We were the only ones there except for a group of six scuba divers who were gone most of the time .. so we had a the place to ourselves.

Rustic but nice! Comfortable lounge chairs were in the ample shady spots as well as in the sun. A covered picnic area provided shelter in case of rain. The small bar sold local beer "Piton" for $5. Daiquiries, etc. were made with fresh fruit. Quite Yummy!

The black sand beach was VERY STONEY ... not so easy to get in & out of the water without slipping around a bit. It was not the best place for beginning snorkelers. The more experienced snorkelers swam out/around the reef and seemed to be quite pleased with the experience. We didn't bother to snorkel -- just happily spent lots of time swimming/floating around in the warm water.

Everyone who took the nature hike into the jungle said it was great.

Lunch was OUTSTANDING! One of the best meals we had on the entire cruise! Freshly caught (that morning) fish perfectly grilled. Also, grilled chicken, various casseroles, salads, etc. All were amazed with the wonderful lunch!

On the return trip the boat took us very close up to view the Pitons. At one point I had to look UP to see the tops.

We enjoyed our day and are glad we gave this excursion a try.

My Signature LuLu ...
