There seem to be about 6 standard itineraries on the bigger cruise lines.

From Florida or the Caribbean thru the Panama Canal, down the west coast of SA down to Valparaiso Chile.
And the reverse

From Valparaiso all the way south, go around Cape Horn and then up to Buenos Aires, Argentina.
And the reverse

During Carnival time, Round trip from Buenos Aires to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the festivities.

From Buenos Aires north to the Caribbean or Florida.
And the reverse.

From Florida or the Caribbean down to Brazil, sail down the Amazon River to Manaus, Brazil.
And the reverse.

Oh well, that's 5 and 9 if you count the reverses. Some of the luxury lines may have additional itineraries too.

We picked Buenos Aires to Valparaiso, because my DH wants to see Cape Horn, and because we can book a Celebrity cruise on our next cruise.
