Once out of Coxen hole and on your way to West End, West Bay, or Sandy Bay is usually how it goes but hold on to your hats because some of the developments about to happen in Roatan is some of the most inspiring, environmentally centered projects to ever be thought of by man. Many of these projects including Blue Ocean Reef (Nikki Beach) and Mystic Harbour(Westin) provide for wildlife refuges and/or habitats on the premises to help preserve some of the beautiful aspects of Roatan that may otherwise be overlooked. Also the best part is that the rest of the island will benefit from this development by getting things like energy and roads in the East End!! While some conservationists find ANY sort of development worse than responsible development, I have spoken to some homeowners in the east side and the progress is quite welcome. Let's all hope that since Roatan's emergence comes late in history, that they benefit from newer, more responsible methods of island development. I never went there on a cruise since I always went Eastern Caribbean, but have travelled there a lot on my own. It is truly one of the greatest spots in the Caribbean.
