There is a lot to consider depending on your ship and itinerary but I learned one lesson the hard way... the gangplank is on the starboard side of the ship so if you are on a lower deck, it is very loud first thing in the morning. Especially debarkation day! We were woken at about 3:30am.
Also, the tenders are released from starboard side so if you are mid level or higher on the ship, you will get to hear this racket first thing.
If you like to sleep in late at all, sleep port side.
